Ashish Upadhyay, MD
I grew up in Shahdara, a suburb of Delhi and did my medical school from MAMC, Delhi and subsequently the MS in orthopedics also from MAMC. After finishing my senior residency, I went to the UK, where I trained at The Oxford Spinal Unit as well as at the Neurosurgical Unit at King’s College Hospital in London. I moved to the US where I completed another residency in Orthopedic Surgery, graduating from the University of Illinois- Chicago. I spent a year of fellowship training at the combined Ortho-Neuro program at the Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, Kentucky. I am a Fellow of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. I have practiced in the Hartford area for the last 8 years and have been the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Bristol Hospital in the past.
My practice has been focused on the adult degenerative spinal disorders, including deformity. I have special interest in the Adult Geriatric Spine and minimally invasive spine surgical procedures and navigational spine surgery. I have learnt through experience that the primary role of the surgeon is to decide upon when it is appropriate to do surgery and to choose the right procedure for maximal output. The ability of a surgeon is defined better by his patient reported outcomes than the applauds from his/her peers.
